Current Projects that need your Support

Whiteface River parcel

$7,000 RAISED….$38,000 TO GO (AS OF JULY 2020)

You might have listened to the Baltimore Oriole’s song at this spot on one of our Warbler Wednesday field trips.  These 41 acres are a beautiful example of riverfront floodplain forest which includes some trees not common in the bog including Green Ash, Ironwood, and Bur Oak. It attracts birds that are at the northern edge of their range including Great Crested Flycatcher,  Wood Thrush, and Yellow-throated Vireo. This will be an incredible spot for spring/summer/fall programing. It is a very unique habitat within Sax-Zim. We had about half the cost of this parcel in our Acres for Owls Land Fund but need about $38,000 more to fund this purchase. Note this project in your donation if you’d like to help.

Winterberry Bog Boardwalk

FULLY FUNDED! THANKS TO THOSE WHO DONATED & ESPECIALLY TO KIM ECKERT WHO PUT UP A $5,000 MATCHING GIFT!

Winterberry Bog will soon be accessible via boardwalk. Wintering Black-backed AND American Three-toed Woodpeckers, Barred Owls, Brown Creepers, winter bird feeders are just a few of the attractions at this FOSZB 40 acre bog parcel. To reduce our collective footprint while still allowing space to explore and untrammeled land for species to thrive, we’ll be adding a 1,000-foot bog boardwalk to this unique parcel in summer/fall 2020.

ACRES FOR OWLS Land Fund

Gifts to our ACRES FOR OWLS FUND have allowed us to purchase over 480 acres of diverse bog habitat, protecting that land for future generations of birds and birders. Check out our ABOUT SAX-ZIM BOG tab and click on OUR TRACTS of LAND to learn more.

Leave your legacy in land. With any gift of $1,000 or more we’ll add your name to an acre of bog that we’re currently working to protect.

A $1,000 donation qualifies you to having your name on a protected acre of bog in Sax-Zim. We are currently working on Yellow-bellied Bog (photo above). Click on image to enlarge.

We survive and thrive on donations from you…our Bog Buddies. One opportunity for a name-legacy (or an honorarium or memorial) is to donate $1,000 to our general fund which allows you the option to put a name on 1-acre of Yellow-bellied Bog. To discuss, please email Sarah at info@saxzim.org. Thanks to all of you who have donated in the past! We have very generous members!

To discuss larger donations and legacy giving, please contact Sparky Stensaas at sparky@saxzim.org or 218-341-3350.

Give through another GIVING PLATFORM

Friends of Sax-Zim Bog is set up to receive charitable gifts through GiveMN.org, Thrivent Financial, Benevity Giving Fund, YourCause, Network for Good and the PayPal Giving Fund.
PayPal Giving Fund does not charge a fee for their credit card transactions, so your full donation benefits Friends of Sax-Zim Bog. Other giving platforms also offer the option to “cover the fee” to enable your full donation to be received as well.

Give Directly through your IRA

If you are 70 ½ years of age or older, you can donate directly from your IRA as a Qualified Charitable Distribution. This is a great option for managing your Required Minimum Distribution and lowers your gross taxable income. As long as your gift comes directly from your IRA plan administrator to Friends of Sax-Zim Bog, your gift is considered a qualified charitable distribution. Contact Sarah Beaster info@saxzim.org if you have questions.

GOOD NEIGHBOR FUND

The GOOD NEIGHBOR FUND was fund established by the Hoeg Family for projects/events that benefit both the local residents of the Bog area and visiting birders and photographers. Our goal with this fund, as the name implies, is to help Friends of Sax-Zim Bog be a good neighbor to the area residents while still helping visitors enjoy the Bog. This is a revolving fund so we gladly accept donations to this fund.
